HIPAA

Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act, or HIPAA, is a term you may have come across at one point or another.  The act, created in 1996, is primarily to modernize the flow of healthcare information.  Further, the act sets guidelines on how personal information should be maintained by healthcare organizations, and addresses limitations on healthcare insurance coverage.  So what does this mean for those providing courier services? It means that your driver will be held to the same expectations as someone working within your doctor’s office.  Training that includes a summary of principles and key provisions within the Privacy Rule are covered.  As well as the Security Rule, violations, and why HIPAA is an essential part of the rights of a patient.

OSHA

The Occupational Safety and Health Administration, or OSHA, is a federal agency of the United States which regulates workplace health and safety.  The main goal of the Act of 1970 is to ensure that employers provide employees with an environment free from recognized hazards, excessive noise levels, mechanical dangers, and unsanitary conditions.  Thus, when it comes to medical courier services, drivers undergo frequent training in OSHA biohazard procedures and how to properly handle spills and other emergencies.  Safely delivering bloodborne pathogens and other specimens, certified drivers carry the proper equipment to ensure the integrity of your delivery.
